The Day I Fell into a Book

For our Big Write Session last week, we had to write a narrative using our imagination all about pretending that we fell into our favorite book! We had to help the characters of the book solve a problem. We also had our own problem to solve like how are we going to get OUT of the book?

Here is us with our favourite books!

Below are some examples of our writing at the exact moment we fell into our books!

Ella
It was a stormy night! It was raining cats and dogs and I was snuggles in my warm bed. I had just started reading my favourite book, Pandamonium! It was about the Zoo animals who borrowed the Zoo Keepers keys. Then..... ZAP! I got zapped by lightning!

Joshua
The street was pitch black when Mum was driving home. I was about to go to sleep but before I did I read a Horror Henry book which was a little bit creepy! I flicked through each page. SUDDENLY a dreadful, terrible black hole stretched its slimy pitch green hands out and sucked me into the horror book!

Charlotte
On a frosty night, I was relaxing on the lounge with my pillow behind my head and my blanket was on top of me. I was reading a book called Green Princess Saves the Day. When it was midnight, I was about to turn to page 10.....
30 arms pulled me into the book. I thought I was in the book but I wasn't quite sure!

Jack
One sunny, beautiful, green morning I was in my bed snuggled up. I was reading Little Aussie Adventures. When I was reading my book my sisters came in annoying me! They finally went back to their rooms to have a nap. Suddenly.... I was sucked into a black hole! Right before my eyes was an ants nest.

McKenna
I was in an orchid, the sun was shining like a camera flash that never turned off. I was under an amazing, wonderful, memorizing pink lady apple tree. I was reading Cat and Mouse in a Haunted House. It was suspenseful. Under the tree i fell asleep....

History Posters

Last night the students in Room 21 brought home their coloured card so they can start constructing their "How Schools Have Changed" Posters. Just a reminder that their posters are due Monday 24th of August Week 6. If you need more information please look through our blog as the project information sheet is posted on there or feel free to arrange a time to discuss the project.

I really hope the students find assembling their posters a lot of fun and that their creative juices will flow!

Class Teacher

Literacy Pro

This term our class goal is to do as much reading as possible! To achieve this goal we have been trying to complete as many Literacy Pro Quizzes as we can from books in the classroom and from then Library. Each Library session we try to get out at least 2 Literacy Pro books to read and then complete quizzes on.

When we reach 25 points we get a certificate at assembly, which we are all very excited about and eager to get!

So far we have done an amazing job and completed more then 300 quizzes. What an achievement!
The total number of quizzes completed by Room 21!

Not only have we done a huge number of quizzes, but we have also read over 1.5 million words. We are hoping to reach 2 million by the end of term!
Total words read by our class.

Mrs Szczepanik and Miss Wright are so proud of us :) Happy reading!

Term 3 Goals

To make sure that we are achieving the very best that we can, we have set goals for the next 4 weeks of term. After 4 weeks we will review our goals and if we have achieved them we will set new others. If not we will stick with the same goal until we do achieve it.

Even Mrs S has a goal to improve her cursive writing!

Goals are very important as they give us something to work towards so we can become better at something. We have a range of goals in our class from Maths to English, including times tables and spelling. Please ask us all about our term goals!

Magnificent Measurement

This term our class is learning all about Measurement and converting measurements. We will be looking at LengthMassVolume and Capacity.

At the start of the term Mrs S asked us what is length? Length is measuring how long an object is, was our reply! To measure length we use the units millimeters (mm), centimeters (cm), meters (m) and kilometers (km).

Over the past few weeks we have been learning all about Length and the different units of length. We looked at things we would measure using mm, cm, m, and km. We then learnt how to convert different measurements as well as adding and taking them away from each other.

We know:

10 mm = 1 cm
100 cm = 1 m
1000m = 1km

We have had lots of tricky problems to solve such as 45mm  = ________cm. With some ongoing practice we are going to be magic at measurement!

Working out some difficult problems!

We did it!

Science Term 3 - Heating Up

Our focus for Science this term is Physical Science. We will be studying heat and looking at how heat is produced. So far we have investigated things that produce heat like people, earth's core, fire and the sun. We have also looked at things that are heated by something else such as a light bulb, engine, radio and a heater.

We have been classifying objects into 3 groups of how heat is produced - Burning, Friction and Electricity. Have a look at some of our photos below from the activity.

Report Project

This term, to celebrate Wattle Grove Primary School turning 100 years old, our class is focussing on how schooling has changed over the past 100 years. As part of our History and Writing program we will be creating report posters on the information we have learnt.

In class we will be researching all the information we need to complete these projects. We will be using the computers and books to find the information needed.

Once we have all the information we need we will be creating posters at home to share with the class. Mrs S will send home the paper we need for our posters and our job is to write or type the information out and present our posters beautifully!

So far we have already learnt SO much about our school and how it has changed. Did you know that Wattle Grove Primary School started with one class and one teacher? The roof was made of iron which made it extremely hot or cot and a lot of the children got sick because of this. One thing we could not believe was that the classroom had no smart board or computers.

Below is a copy of the assignment sheet.
