Spelling Rules.

This year we have really been focusing on improving our Spelling and learning all our spelling rules. So far, we have learnt 5 important spelling rules.

  1. When there is more than one we add an 's'
  2. When a word ends in sh, ch, s or x we have to add 'es'
  3. Words that end in f we change it to a v and add 'es' when there is more than one. For example: leaf - leaves
  4. When we add a suffix such as ed, er and est y changes to an i then we can add a suffix
  5. When we add a suffix, such as ing or ed, to a word with a short vowel we need to double the consonant to protect the vowel. For example: hop - hopping
We created posters on our spelling rules to help us remember to use them in our writing. Below are some examples.
